Don’t ignore your dog’s training because you think you lack the ability to make a success of it. This stems from a lack of information on dog training. Unless you are willing to consider different training approaches, it will be difficult to find the best solution for your situation. Read this information to learn how to properly train a dog.

Training is an ongoing process – your dog needs to be constantly reminded of the rules! Do not assume that your dog will remember his training all his life. However, pets are ruled by habits, structure and routine in much that same way that humans are. This is why on-going training is important.

Try a phrase that you will stick with to train your puppy when you are house breaking him or her. For example, you could use the phrase, “go potty” when you take them outside to help them remember what to do when you go outside and say the command.

Dog’s deserve more freedom as their training progresses. This balance between obedience and freedom will provide your dog with a very satisfying life. Just be careful not to overdo it on the freedom initially as it can set your dog training efforts back.

To house train your dog, you should make sure that your dog follows a regular feeding and elimination schedule. Before the dog goes to the bathroom on your carpet, you will know when it has to go outside. A schedule will train your dog to know when he will get to go out next.

Training your dog requires you to be firm and authoritative. Never scream at your dog, you need to do the right thing and be nice to them and stern at the same time. This will help improve the relationship between you and your dog.

Create a specific command to stop your dog when it barks. When it starts barking, show them the treat and say the command until it quits barking. You could give your dog treats. By repeating this, the dog learns that silence brings treats.

Overworking a new puppy with new information will only lead to trouble. Remember that all dogs have short attention spans and puppies even more so. If your training sessions stress your puppy, he will grow increasingly less attentive in future sessions.

Make sure you know your dog’s grooming needs based off his or her breed. If you have a dog that requires a lot of grooming, make sure that this is done frequently. This will keep your dog fresh and reduce the chance of illness.

Never, ever give your dog a reward as a means of stopping bad behavior. That will result in the dog thinking it can do whatever it wants, whenever it wants. Do not ever reward bad beahvior.

If you are interested in dog agility, it is a good idea to do some research and choose a dog breed that is well suited for it. A dog can be trained in agility, but there are breeds out there that are naturally more adaptive for it.

With any luck, these tips should help you feel much more confident when training your dog. Don’t stop now! There is a lot of information out there for you.
