How To Correct Aggressive Dog Behavior

When you are working with your dog, you need to learn some of the many dog training tricks that can help you successfully correct aggressive dog behavior. In particular, if your dog is exhibiting any aggressive behaviors, whether they are toward humans or other dogs, you need to know how to correct aggressive dog behavior quickly and effectively. Learning how to correct aggressive dog behavior in your dog can be a very difficult task. You may find it helpful to use a dog obedience guide or trick list to check and see which tricks you will need to focus on for successful correction of aggressive dog behavior. Here are some of the more popular dog training tricks that can be used to correct aggressive dog behavior.

First of all, you must work to establish dominance between you and your dog. A dog that has a dominant nature is often one that barks, scratches, or nips at people when they get close. One way to correct aggressive dog behavior that usually works is to ignore the dog. For example, if your dog is constantly barking at people, ignoring the dog for 10 minutes each time will usually silence the annoying behavior.

Another way to correct aggressive dog behavior is to distract your dog from the source of his irritation. This can be accomplished by simply moving into a different room or opening a door for him. You should remember that you will not be able to overpower the dog when he is barking at you. Therefore, the distraction technique should be partial. You should try to get as far from the source of the irritation as possible without upsetting your dog.

One way to correct aggressive dog behavior that will really get his attention is to call him by name. This seems to work better for some breeds of dogs than others. To begin with, try calling your dog by his name while you are still in the same room as he is. If he immediately goes to you to see what is going on, you are off to a good start. However, if he does not see you and continues to bark, get over him immediately. He will not understand why you did not hear him!

The next time he starts acting out, repeat your command word for word until he understands. You might also want to add an unpleasant sound, such as a sharp “ow” if he is exhibiting inappropriate behavior. You must remain calm and quiet while he concentrates on his behavior problems, however.

Many people who own dogs wonder how to correct aggressive dog behavior when they realize that the dog really does have pent up aggression built up. To solve this problem, remain calm while telling your dog his unacceptable behavior. Don’t scold him, either. Simply stand there, ignoring his advances and his whines, until he learns that his actions are unacceptable. It may take several times before he learns this, but do not give up.

How to correct aggressive dog behavior can vary depending on how your dog responds to different training methods. I would not recommend any of these methods. Concentration on one method at a time, with constant practice, is the best way to train your dog properly. You will learn how to correct aggressive dog behavior without having to worry about frustrating him or hurting him.

Some people use a spray or a quick shock with a firm “no.” They claim that it teaches the dog to stop acting out and therefore reduce the aggression. I personally think that while they may get rid of some aggressive dog behavior, they do not solve the problem. In fact, if your aggressive dog behavior is truly bad, it may even be a sign that your dog has mental health problems. So the answer is no, you cannot correct aggressive dog behavior by using these methods.
