Teaching your dog how to lay down can sometimes be difficult, especially when it is older. How to teach a stubborn dog to lie down? Yes, it is very difficult and you may find yourself at an advantage sometimes, but then again, so is dog training in general. You have to sweat it out so that your dog eventually learns, if your dog is stubborn and does not seem to mind nothing else you say, then you need to work harder.

For example, never leave food on the floor or give him/her treats for lying down, do not give them a dog toy in addition to a food bowl, do not allow your dog to jump on people, and do not let your dog have free rein of the house.

Now, let us focus on how to teach a stubborn dog to lie down. This can take more patience on your part and it depends largely on how stubborn your dog is. To teach your dog how to lie down, you will have to get down on your knees and look into his eyes while giving him/her a firm “down” or “stay”. Be very patient with your dog.

One important aspect of this trick is consistency. Every time you train your dog this way, he/she will come to expect it. Eventually your dog will lie down and you will be able to simply pick him/her up without having to break your neck lifting him/her up. You may have to do this a few times to get used to the concept. Start by putting your arm right behind your dog’s shoulder and then pulling it towards your dog. The dog should easily turn over onto his/her back side.

Another one of the dog training tricks for teaching how to teach a stubborn dog to lie down is to start tugging on his/her collar. When your dog starts to whine and then stand still, immediately stop tugging on the collar and gently guide him/her to sit or lie down. Do this a few times per day. Eventually your dog will learn to lie down without barking or whining.

Teaching your dog to lie down is an important dog training tricks that every dog owner must learn in order to have a happy and comfortable dog. If you don’t train your dog, he/she may develop behavior problems including separation anxiety. This can cause problems in the house and be very difficult to control.
