Secrets to How to Train a Show Dog

If you have a dog that loves to be in the front of the family or the “show dog” position then you know just how to train a dog. A dog that is properly trained is very obedient and listens well to commands. Some dog training tips are harder to teach than others too. Just as you would not try to teach a child to ride a bike, you probably don’t want to teach your dog to behave badly either. Here are some of the dog training tricks that can help you train your dog.

The dog training “difficulties” that can be found online are interesting but should be broken down into manageable pieces. This will make the dog training process go faster and avoid those frustration times that you may run into. There are three of the hardest tricks to teach dogs. Wait, bark or speak.

The first dog training tricks that must be taught to your pooch are the hardest for most dog owners. The bark or howl. It’s hard enough for the average family dog to get their attention, let alone a wild animal. Most dogs start out by doing those two things then eventually move on to sit, heel and down.

The second dog training tips to remember is to take your time. Training a dog takes time so you must commit to it. Your pooch may learn two or three tricks at first. After all, if you take the time and trouble then they will be able to master the next one. Puppies especially can get bored. So be sure to give them something to do.

You should also use positive reinforcement techniques during the training process. I don’t care how you do it but stick with it. Positive reinforcement techniques such as treats and rewards are going to be the key to successful training. By using these techniques you are creating a positive environment in which your dog will want to perform the desired behavior. These positive behaviors will then be reinforced with more dog training tricks like treats and toys.

The third dog training tips is to teach him the word “free.” In order for your dog to master the word “free,” you need to teach him the word after you have successfully given him a treat. So, when you give him a dog treat he needs to say the word free. The best way to teach him this word is to say it several times then say free later. Try to do this in a high-pitched voice. This is known as “free-ing” your dog’s mouth and giving him his reward after he has done what you asked.

The fourth dog training tip is to always use a positive praise system when training your dog. In order for training to be effective, you must always reward your dog when he performs an action correctly. I always recommend giving a dog a treat when he follows directions and even better if he successfully performed the action on his own. If he is successfully trained, don’t be afraid to show off your new dog by showing off his latest accomplishments. This will make him happy and people around him will begin to take notice of him. Remember to always praise your puppy or dog whenever he is doing something right.

Finally, you should teach him how to sit. I don’t care how you do it but you have to teach him how to sit before he can be properly trained. Dogs who know how to behave in a sitting position will easily behave when you tell them to sit. One of the easiest ways to teach your dog the proper position for sitting is to use the same dog training tricks that you used when teaching him how to stand and sit. For example, if you want him to sit on command then you might grab his ankles and ask him in a firm but controlled voice, “sit” while backing away a few steps.
