When training your dog, do not treat your dog like he is a person with a great intellectual capacity. Doing so will leave one sadly disappointed by the results they receive. In this article you are going to learn the proper way to treat your dog during the training process.

Make sure your dog is up and active often. Dogs get bored just as easily as children. Dogs that lose interest are hard to train. Keeping your dog exercised and happy will help them pay attention more due to releasing all excess energy that often distracts them from your commands. You and your dog can run or walk together daily.

The first rule to remember when you begin to house train your puppy is that what you feed them will eventually come out the other end. To have your dog on a consistent bathroom schedule, have him or her eating quality food about two or three times every day, at the exact same time. This will help you figure out when the best time is to take your dog out and avoid accidents.

Choose a crate that corresponds to the size of your dog to facilitate its training. Puppies will grow up quite quickly. Choose a crate which will be suitable for the puppy when he matures into an adult. Don’t restrict the size so much so that the dog cannot lie or turn easily.

It is a simple task to teach a dog how to roll over, just be sure to keep some dog treats handy! The first step is to get the dog to lay down. The next step is to hold a treat close to the floor by the dog’s head then continue to move the treat over his head until you reach the other side. They’ll follow your treat with their nose which will cause them to roll over. Be sure to say ROLL OVER as your dog is rolling. Eventually, he will learn to perform the trick upon command. Have patience since your dog may not get the trick quickly. However, once he does, he’ll be the center of attention at the dog park.

As training progresses, dogs can be given more freedom because they are more reliable. Your dog will be happy when he gets rewards for his good behavior, such as freedom. Just be careful that you don’t give your dog too much freedom, as this can cause negative behavior.

Pay attention to the length of your dog training sessions. Your dog is going to get bored doing the same thing over and over. Start off with individual training periods of no more than 10 minutes.

Toilet training is as much your responsibility as theirs. Learn your dog’s signals, so you can anticipate the need to go out. Pacing, sniffing and whining are common signs. Don’t hesitate to take your dog out whenever you notice your dog behaving in one of these ways. Put your dog on a leash and take him where he should go. Reward your dog for getting your attention when he needs to go out. Soon, he’ll get the picture that he can ask to go outside.

Dogs are just like people; they love hearing the sound of their own names and the use of the name will call them to attention. Use it as often as possible when you have your puppy during the first weeks, the puppy will make the connection. Keep the name brief, and make sure that it does not sound too similar to other commonly used words.

When your dog is displaying unwanted behaviors, use water to spray him. This will help your dog understand that certain behaviors will not be tolerated. Then your dog will no longer do actions that you don’t like.

To enforce good behavior when training your dog, remember to praise him regularly. Simple things like smiles, praise and even tiny treats help to reinforce the desired behaviors. Avoid rewarding improper behavior since the dog will relate this to positive reinforcement too.

After learning some helpful hints on how to get through to your dog and train it to behave to your expectations you simply need to follow what you have learned. After changing your dogs behavior to fit with the tips suggested you can properly train your dog.
