A dog who is used to being confined to a crate while you are out of town and suddenly has to be let go after you return home is going to be confused and possibly frightened. Naturally, this will cause all kinds of problems in your dog’s behavioral development. One common problem that dog owners have been discussing is how long should you leave dog in crate before he can go to the bathroom on his own. This article looks at that question from both the dog owner’s and the dog’s point of view.
We all know how unpleasant it is for a dog to have to clean up his dog’s waste in a crate. It can make him extremely nervous and even angry. If you let your dog stay in the crate for too long without taking him out, he may get confused and think that other people are invading his territory.
You do want to take your dog out to the designated elimination area every couple of hours but don’t make it an hour out. Ideally, you want to take your dog out an hour before and after his meal. You can also put the dog’s waste bags in his crate during his meal as well as after the meals. The dog will be tempted to use the bathroom while the dog waste bags are there but he won’t if he knows that there are cameras watching him.
You may feel that your dog has done something illegal by leaving his dog’s waste in the crate. The fact is that your dog can relieve himself whenever he wants to and nobody has to tell him. The reason the dog’s waste needs to go in the dog’s waste bags is because the dog’s waste is contaminated with bacteria and feces. Placing the dog’s waste bags in the crate and bringing it out right away will eliminate the threat of your dog relieving himself in the crate.
If you have a dog that doesn’t need to relieve himself but you still want him to do it in the crate then you should place a dog’s waste bag inside the crate along with the dog’s other toiletries and grooming supplies. The dog will relieve himself but won’t go near the dog waste bag. He will smell the urine and feces but won’t touch it.
You should also take your dog out for walks once a week and leave him in his dog house or doggie daycare. If you are going to leave your dog at home, you should do it when he is most satisfied. One hour after feeding is the ideal time for you to leave your dog at home. If you are going to leave him in his dog house, you should do it when he is completely satisfied.
If you are going to leave him in his dog house, you should put a dog’s waste bag inside the crate. You can put an old towel inside the crate. After your dog relieves itself he should immediately go outside and get into the dog house. After doing this for about half an hour and a half you can close the door. This will keep your dog from relieving himself where you don’t want him to.
When you go out of the dog house, make sure you don’t take your dog for any walk unless you are bringing him with you. He needs to exercise on his own to relieve himself because he will urinate and defecate in the grass and dirt. If you don’t leave your dog enough time to do his business outside then he will relieve himself in your house. To prevent this from happening you should let him out of his dog house and put a dog’s waste bag inside it. If you think your dog has an accident in your house, this will be an easy way to clean it up.
