Learning how to get the dog to stop attacking other dogs can be a very frustrating and trying experience for dog owners. In the past I had a dog that used to go into other dogs’ back yards and attack them, until I learned some dog training tips. Here are some suggestions of things I did to stop dog aggression.
When my dog would come up to a dog training tricks, I would use the same kind of dog training tricks to teach him that he was not welcome in our yard. I did this by bringing him over to our yard, holding a leash, and telling him to “Sit.” After he did, I would say “Good Boy,” then I’d give him a treat, and a smile. Sometimes he would get angry when I said the word “good boy” but I would ignore him, so that he would calm down.
Another way I learned how to get a dog to stop attacking other dogs was to distract him. I would walk through the neighborhood, pointing at cars and houses, and barking at them. After a while, he would turn his head and look at me, or he would follow me around the yard, until I said the word “Good Boy.” This worked because he thought I was just playing with him, and that if he attacked another dog it would be OK because I was going to pull him over.
My dog loved to see the other dog on the leash and he also loved to see me being careful. So every time I took one of his dog training tricks with me, I was always careful. The next time I used a dog training trick, I took it for granted. He was no longer afraid of me; in fact, I could tell he was relieved that I wasn’t following him around.
But he still wouldn’t go away when I called him. He would come right up to me, sniff and bite, and say, “All right.” So I would grab the dog leash and pull hard on it, but he wouldn’t let go. He finally went crazy after about ten or fifteen minutes of this, so I stepped back and called him softly, “Hey! You need to stop attacking other dogs!”
Then I started yelling, “NO!” loudly, and the dog finally let go. I put a hand up in front of his face and just held onto his leash. The dog looked at me with those puppy dog eyes and then started to walk away. It took a couple of minutes, but finally the dog realized I was going to be his source of leadership for that dog training tricks. After that, he always followed me when I went out, and now he gets excited whenever I come home.
It’s not every dog owner’s cup of tea, however, because some people don’t think dog training tricks are necessary. I completely understand that. But I’ve had enough experience with dog aggression issues to know that dog aggression is never a problem when you have positive reinforcement around. With positive dog training tricks, your dog will learn how to behave properly and will live a more peaceful life, which is priceless.
If you want to get a dog that doesn’t have aggressive tendencies, all you need to do is pay attention to the things that set him off. And that’s not just any old thing; if your dog starts to bark and raise its voice whenever you leave the house, do something about it! Teach him to stop barking by rewarding it with praise or treats. If it’s time to go out, walk by his side while giving him your full attention, and when you get back, put the leash on him firmly and say “Good dog!” Over again until he learns what you’re asking for.
